What can void a warranty for any floating floor installation? 


  • Improper subfloor preparation (uneven surface, excessive deflection, debris left underneath)

  • Installing over a subfloor with excessive moisture or without proper moisture testing

  • Failure to use a required 6 mil moisture barrier or additional cushion style  underlayment (if specified)

  • Installing in non-approved areas (e.g., unconditioned spaces, outdoors, saunas)

  • Not allowing proper expansion gaps around perimeter walls, door casings, door thresholds, other flooring and fixed objects

  • Gluing, nailing, or mechanically fastening a floating floor (unless product is rated for it)

  • Installing cabinets, islands, or heavy built-ins on top of a floating floor

  • Exceeding maximum run length/width without required expansion breaks or transitions

  • Improper locking/engagement of planks during installation

  • Mixing different lots or product types incorrectly without blending

  • Installing damaged planks and not inspecting before/during install

  • Failure to follow manufacturer installation instructions exactly

  • Exposure to extreme temperatures (typically below 50°F or above 100°F, varies by brand)

  • Lack of climate control (HVAC not maintained before, during, and after install)

  • Excessive direct sunlight without window coverings (leading to thermal expansion issues)

  • Rapid temperature fluctuations causing movement or separation

  • Water damage from flooding, leaks, or standing water over extended periods

  • Moisture intrusion from below (e.g., slab leaks, crawlspace humidity)

  • Failure to clean up spills promptly (despite “waterproof” claims)

  • Using non-approved adhesives, cleaners, or maintenance products

  • Using steam mops or excessive wet mopping

  • Abrasive cleaners, waxes, or polishes that damage the wear layer

  • Dragging heavy furniture/appliances without protection

  • Lack of furniture pads or floor protectors

  • Damage from rolling loads without proper mats (chairs, carts, etc.) - non foot traffic

  • High heels, pet damage, or sharp object gouging beyond wear layer tolerance

  • Failure to maintain proper indoor humidity levels

  • Neglect, abuse, or misuse of the flooring

  • Commercial use of a product rated for residential use only

  • Not registering the product warranty (if required by manufacturer)

  • Lack of proof of purchase or improper documentation

  • Improper repairs, alterations, or partial replacements

  • Failure to follow cleaning and maintenance guidelines
