Step-by-Step SUPERCore Installation Guide

Installing SUPERCore? Here’s how to nail it (without a single nail).

Whether you’re installing over concrete, wood, or existing flooring, the SUPERCore locking system is designed for quick, no-glue, no-stress installs. This guide will walk you through each phase of the process, start to finish — no guesswork, no second-guessing.

If you’ve prepped your space and planned your layout (see Tools & Prep and Layout Planning if not), you’re ready to get started.

✅ Quick Things to Remember Before You Start

  • SUPERCore is a floating floor – never glue or nail it down

  • It already has built-in underlayment – no need to add extra

  • Leave 1/4" expansion space around all fixed objects

  • Stagger seams by at least 6 inches

  • Shuffle planks from multiple boxes to blend color variation

🛠️ 1. Start With Your First Row

Getting the first row right makes everything else go smoother.

Steps:

  1. Trim the tongue side of the first-row planks (the side facing the wall).
Use a utility knife to score and snap, or saw it off.

  2. Place spacers between the plank and the wall to maintain your expansion gap.

  3. Lay your first plank in the corner of the room, decorative side up, trimmed edge toward the wall.

  4. Connect the next plank end-to-end using the angle-click method:

    • Insert the tongue into the groove at a 20–30° angle

    • Lower it down until it clicks flat

  5. Continue this row until you reach the last plank.
Measure the space, mark, and cut the final piece to fit — don’t forget the spacer!

Pro Tip: Use a jigsaw or fine-tooth saw for tricky cuts around doorways or corners.

➕ 2. Start the Second Row (and Beyond)

This is where the “lock” in click-lock comes to life.

Steps:

  1. Begin with the offcut from your previous row (as long as it’s at least 8" long).

  2. Angle the plank into the groove of the previous row, click it into place.

  3. For the next plank in the row, angle the long side in first, then slide the short ends together.

  4. Use a tapping block and mallet (light taps!) to snug the joints without damaging the planks.

  5. Continue working row by row, staggering seams at least 6" apart.

🔁 Repeat until you reach the far wall, keeping an eye on seam spacing and board fit.

✂️ 3. Cutting the Final Row

You’ll almost never end with a perfect-width plank — here’s how to make the last row clean.

Steps:

  1. Lay a full plank directly on top of the last installed row (don’t click it in).

  2. Place another plank upside down on top of that one, with its edge against the wall (don’t forget your spacer).

  3. Trace the edge — this gives you a custom fit for the gap.

  4. Cut and click the trimmed plank into place.

🚪 4. Navigating Doorways, Pipes & Vents

These areas need a little finesse — and patience.

Door Jambs:

  • Lay a scrap plank upside down next to the door frame

  • Use it as a height guide to trim the jamb with a hand saw

  • Planks should slide under the frame with room to expand

Pipes & Vents:

  • Measure and trace the cutout on your plank

  • Use a jigsaw or hole saw to cut

  • Leave a slight gap around the pipe — cover with a trim ring or sealant

🚫 5. What Not To Do

Here’s how to avoid common DIY mistakes that cause callbacks or do-overs:

  • ❌ Don’t install without expansion gaps

  • ❌ Don’t glue or fasten SUPERCore to the subfloor unless using a glue-down version

  • ❌ Don’t install in saunas, outdoors, or where standing water is likely

  • ❌ Don’t forget to blend planks from different boxes

  • ❌ Don’t skip checking subfloor flatness (you’ll feel it later)

🧼 6. Final Steps: Wrap It Up

Almost done! Just a few final touches:

  • ✅ Remove spacers from all edges

  • ✅ Reinstall baseboards or trim to cover the expansion gap

  • ✅ Clean the surface — dry mop or vacuum with a soft attachment

  • ✅ Admire your work (seriously, this part matters)

🧽 Pro Tip: Avoid wet mopping right away. Give it 24–48 hours before any deep clean, especially if in a high-humidity area.

➕ Optional: Add Matching Stair Nosing or Transitions

If your installation includes stairs, step-downs, or transitions to other flooring, now’s the time to:

  • Add matching SUPERCore stair nosing

  • Install T-molds or reducers between rooms or surfaces

  • Use 100% silicone adhesive as needed (never construction glue)
